Video Work

“Sardines: A Portrait of Lisbon” Digital Video [Canon c100 / BMPCC4k / DaVinci Resolve] – 2022

This short film was shot as a portion of my bachelor’s thesis for the Cinema and Media Studies program at Carleton College in Northfield Minnesota, USA. The original cut was much more visually and graphically driven, but had to be cut into a more narrative, linear version for the purpose of the thesis. My original cut is on my media server back in the US, but this version still provides some context for the work. Sardines is an experiential exploration of space guided by the situationist principle of “the derive” – an aimless wandering with the goal of experiencing the city outside of a typical structured framework. Shot in Lisbon over two weeks, Sardines aims to capture a slice of life in this beautiful coastal city.

“Wera Advertisement Spec”Digital Video [BMPCC4k / BMPCC6K / Davinci Resolve] – 2025

This advertisement spec was shot last month with my creative partner and coworker, David Rauchenberger, as a demo for the tool brand Wera. We are currently in communication with their social media team, and hope to secure a more permanent contract.

Product Photography

Wakeheart Perfume, “Lucid Locations” – Digital Photography [Nikon D810 / Adobe Photoshop] – 2020

My first contract with Wakeheart came as a bit of an unexpected surprise. One of my photos from Flickr had been screenshotted and shared on a Tumblr page, which eventually made its way to the Wakehart social media team, who unknowingly used it without permission or accreditation. Rather than back-payment, I offered to shoot some product shots for their upcoming line: Lucid Locations. This eventually turned into a longer-term professional relationship, giving me experience working with a creative team in a more commercial setting. These specific photos were shot using colored card paper and props found in the forest outside my house. I strive to use exclusively practical effects and props wherever possible, which worked very well in this shoot.

Physical Work

“Västgöta Student Nation – “Sillunch Poster” – Graphic Design / Printing – 2024
“Västgöta Student Nation – “Informational Poster” – Graphic Design / Printing – 2024

These posters were created in my position as “marketing-responsible” for Västgöta Nation during my time in Uppsala, Sweden. The first is promoting a traditional “sill lunch” where members dress in formalwear and eat traditional Swedish herring and potatoes to celebrate the start of spring. The second poster was created for an informational campaign run by the student nation marketing committee. The photos in this poster are from the Västgöta Nation archives, and are part of a longer series highlighting the evolution of the student nation from its founding in 1639, to it’s current state in the 21st century.

KULTUM Graz, Josef Fink AusstellungExhibit Design – 2025

While my job at Kultum encompasses many responsibilities, my favorite remains exhibit design. Despite being fairly new in the position, I was given full autonomy in assembling this collage of Josef Fink’s posters and graphic / textual works for the latest exhibit at the museum. I was also responsible for framing and mounting the other photos in the exhibit room, building a 10m long table displaying the artist’s personal items, and designing and installing the audio stations for this exhibit hall.

Local Farms Series

Get Bentz Farm“Local Farms” Series – Digital and Analog Photography [Nikon D810 / Horseman 970 / Toyo 45a] – 2020-2022

In my time at Carleton College, I worked to strengthen our college’s ties to the surrounding community, which largely consists of small farms and independent producers. In my work with my college’s dining hall to source more local produce, I came into contact with a number of these local farms and farmers. I got particularly close with Theresa and her husband Jake at Get Bentz farm, a small family run farm with a flock of Icelandic heritage breed sheep. I was invited to photograph the operation of their farm over the course of a season, and later turned this into a larger series focusing on local farms and farmers in southern Minnesota. This project gained support from the Rice County government, and provided support for the petition for more small farm subsidies in Minnesota. These photos also went on to be published in the Icelandic newspaper, Frettabladid, who did a piece on the Get Bentz farm, and their heritage Icelandic sheep.

Preservation Maryland

Preservation Maryland Digital Photography [Nikon D810] – 2019

Preservation Maryland is a non-profit, fighting for the preservation and revitalization of small or under-served towns in rural Maryland. I was fortunate enough to work with them in the summer of 2019, documenting life in these small towns, and sharing the stories of their inhabitants. This work was later incorporated into a grant request from the non-profit, and used to help secure funding for the essential work in Ellicott City, Denton, and Crisfield Maryland.

Personal Work

An assorted collection of studio, landscape, and editorial work from 2018-2024. Shot with Nikon D810 or Horseman 970.

Uppsala Thesis: Unpacking a Hierarchy of Trust

Last but not least, my thesis for Uppsala University. This research addresses the growing applications and impacts of AI-generated digital human avatars from software suites like HeyGen. By exploring the role of trust in mediating user interaction with such technology, this study establishes a basic hierarchical model which supports some foundational theories of human-computer interaction, while also calling into question some more recent theories and models previously used to evaluate avatar technology. By modeling user behavior and user preference through the lens of trust, this study is able to demonstrate how this emerging technology is similar to its predecessors and their relevant theories, while also establishing this technology as something distinctly new and largely untested.

This research serves as an exploratory study, using notions of social presence, anthropomorphic design, social trust, technological trust, and human source-bias to separate this generation of AI Avatar technology from its predecessors, and determine what theories and models govern the use of this new technology. The findings from this study and their impacts on use-cases are then applied, speculating on prosocial as well as potentially unethical uses of such technology. Finally, this study problematizes the loss of “primary trust” that this technology may afford, highlighting the importance not only of continued research, but also rapid oversight in the deployment of this emerging technology.
